In 1986, systematic archaeological research started on the perimeter of the antic thermal complex site, in the center of the Geoagiu Băi resort. This research identified a thermal complex like no other in the world, it owing its uniqueness to the way it’s organizes, the placement of the pools, and the mobile inventory discovered here. In successive layers, one can see how the thermal springs were being used by the Dacians even before roman conquest. The Romans enlarged the swimming pool and collected the water using a network of terracotta tubes. Excavations unearthed several golden votive plaques with inscriptions of gratitude for the miraculous cures attributed to the thermal waters.
The Thermal Baths Complex is situated in the center of the Geoagiu Băi resort, right next to the current thermal swimming pool.
