The “AUREL VLAICU” Memorial Complex, built in the honor of engineer, inventor and Romanian aviation pioneer Aurel Vlaicu, consists of: The Memorial House, The Museum, and the Bust – a monument made of bronze by the famous sculptor Dimitru Bârlad and placed between the two buildings. The house in which he grew up is in the care of Aurel Vlaicu’s descendants and keeps most of its original appearance. In the back yard, you can also see the original shed and barn. The Memorial Museum was built in 1982 and it is home to a large collection of objects linked to Aurel Vlaicu’s aviation and inventing activities: the motorized bicycle, models of his aircrafts, a gramophone, his box of tricks, sketches, drawings, photos of him, letters, newspapers and proof of his international recognition.
